Did you know that The Beauty Parlour carries several superb hair care lines, two of which are 100% cruelty-free and vegan?
Both amika and doTERRA, two of our hair care mainstays are committed to being 100% cruelty-free. The majority of the products from both companies are also vegan.
“amika never has and never will conduct animal testing. When we create a product, we test it on ourselves, our friends, anyone and everyone we can get our hands on! We test on people, never animals.”
We know this is important to many of our customers, and it matters to us that we can offer quality products that also meet these standards.
We’re also delighted to note that the company that owns Goldwell, another of our product lines, has a growing commitment to the same standards. You can see the latest cruelty-free policy from the Kao Group that owns Goldwell hair products here.

We do perms!!!! Some of us will remember back in the 1970’s and ’80’s when perms were all the rage? While not as common today, there are still some hairstylists that do them. At The Beauty Parlour in Almonte we do perms well. Below is an example of a perm just to get your creative mind in gear.
We are in December and it is hard to believe time flies by so quickly. With Christmas approaching and the New Year right after, perhaps you would like to change things up a bit and try a perm. However, there are some considerations before getting a perm. The first thing you should be aware of is that this hair treatment is a commitment—there’s a reason it’s called a “perm” (permanent) and not a “temp” (temporary). If you want to take the plunge, we can help. A fantastic upside is a well cared for perm can last from three to six months.
Some things to consider:
First, do a hair check. Be honest about the condition of your hair. Damaged hair is not a good candidate for a perm. Healthy hair will make for better curls.
Do-it-yourself kits are available at the drug store but we recommend going to a specialist. Perms require good timing and know how and we want your hair looking its best.
A good perm on someone with lots of hair comes in a range of prices, especially if you opt for a better quality product and spiral curls of different diameters to mimic a natural look. And depending on your hair, it can make for a longer appointment – perhaps up to two hours.
Once we see your hair and discuss the look you want, we can let you know which perm options are best for your hair, based on your budget.
If you have any questions, come in for a consultation and we can give you suggestions based on our years of experience and your own hair. It is always best if we can see your hair and thus give you our best recommendations. We look forward to seeing you soon.

First, a little history about hair colouring. The colouring of hair is an ancient art that involves treatment of the hair with various chemical compounds. In ancient times, the dyes were obtained from plants. Some of the most well known are henna, indigo, Cassia obovata, senna, turmeric and amla. Others include black walnut hulls, red ochre and leeks. In a book from 1661 called “Eighteen Books of the Secrets of Art & Nature,” various methods of coloring hair black, gold, green, red, yellow, and white are explained.
The development of synthetic dyes for hair is traced to the 1860s discovery of the reactivity of para-phenylenediamine (PPD) with air. Eugène Schueller, the founder of L’Oréal, is recognized for creating the first synthetic hair dye in 1907. Goldwell’s roots go back to about 1948 in Germany. Hans Erich Dotter established a chemical factory and the business focused on the production and sale of hair cosmetics exclusively for the hair stylist. Goldwell crossed the Atlantic and came to Canada in 1979.
Today, Goldwell is a world leader in hair colour with products that are gentler on the your hair than even 10 years ago. If you are interested in exploring colour options for your hair come and see us. You have lots of choices and we have lots of experience. I have been personally using Goldwell colour for most of my career. You will find us at 103 Bridge Street in Carleton Place, ON.
